Islamabad: The provincial governments have decided to provide a collective sum of PKR 50 billion for the development of agriculture sector during (fiscal year) FY2019-20, a news source reported.

Minister for National Food Security and Research Mahboob Sultan expressed his views on the matter. He said that the allocation for agriculture sector in the development budget had been reduced by 60%.
He informed that the federal government has decided to provide funds worth PKR 12 billion to provinces for the agriculture sector. Similarly, a five-year agri programme would be launched in consultation with the provincial governments at a cost of PKR 280 billion.

Additional initiatives include an amount of Rs218bn for improving water productivity by building water infrastructure including small water conservation projects, and PKR 44.8 billion for increasing production of wheat, rice, sugarcane, and cotton.
