Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Friday (November 19) directed the provinces to join efforts with Survey of Pakistan and finalise the verification of cadastral mapping within two months to remove illegal occupation from the state land, according to news sources.

Reportedly, PM Khan chaired a meeting of the National Coordinating Committee for Housing, Construction, and Development. In the meeting, the prime minister ordered a follow-up for the pending cases against encroachment by Islamabad Capital Territory and provincial governments. He also issued instructions for plantation of the land retrieved from encroachments. The prime minister instructed the provinces to finish the legislative process against encroachments on state land as soon as possible.
During the meeting, Surveyor General of Pakistan Major General Shahid Pervaiz briefed the meeting on cadastral mapping in the country. The mapping work on 88% of government lands has been completed, which showed that thousands of acres of land were encroached upon. He went on to say that cadastral mapping will help digitalise the ownership of government lands.

As per the details, most of the encroachments were on forest lands and the properties of the National Highway Authority, Pakistan Railways, National Highway Authority and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). The attendees were informed that the next phase of the project will focus on the completing digitalisation of private lands with the help of provincial governments.
