Islamabad: The Climate Change Ministry has asked the provincial governments to ban housing societies on agricultural lands till the master plan of major cities is not completed, according to a news story published on Friday (February 18).

As per the details, the provinces have planned to prepare master plans of 80 cities in a bid to improve the natural environment and air quality. To prevent construction activities and protect agricultural land, the governments will follow the National Climate Change Policy. It will promote vertical growth in the urban areas.

Moreover, the ministry is also trying to persuade the provinces to introduce laws that will make it compulsory to seek permission from the provincial cabinets to use green land for residential purposes. According to the official, the master plans will prevent cities from expanding beyond their limits. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam stated that the Prime Minister (PM) has ordered to prepare the master plans by the end of the year. He went on to say that the government is promoting vertical growth of the cities that will protect tree cover and agricultural land in the country.
