Lahore: Provincial governments have been asked to submit their reply regarding functioning of patwaris, kanungos and tehsildars in urban areas, a news source reported. A special bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Saqib Nisar issued the directives the Lahore registry.
Punjab Advocate General Ahmad Owais informed the special bench of the apex court that the matter related to the Land Revenue Act which was also applicable in other provinces.
On his part, Chief Justice Nisar issued notices to all four provincial governments and announced that next hearing of the case would take place in Islamabad. He also observed that no serious efforts were being made for planned urbanisation.
The top judge had earlier taken suo motu notice of alleged record tampering and corruption at patwarkhanas. Justice Nisar had questioned patwaris’ role in preparing land transfer deeds following the establishment of Punjab Land Revenue Authority (PLRA).
