Islamabad: The Federal Government is considering to set up economic zones in the capital on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, reported a news source. These economic zones will be constructed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

Sources claim that the government is considering various options for establishing these zones. At present, many projects launched under CPEC are being carried out on a BOT basis. This arrangement allows for speedy project development and delivery.

So far, the government hasn’t completed the construction work on any economic zone. Under CPEC, Pakistan is expected to see economic zones development in following areas:
- Khattar Economic Zone, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- China Special Economic Zone, Dhabeji, Sindh
- Allama Iqbal Industrial Park, Balochistan
- Moqpondass Industrial Zone, Gilgit-Baltistan
- Mirpur Industrial Zone, Azad Kashmir
- Mohmand Marbel City, FATA
- Industrial Zone, Port Qasim, Karachi
- ICT Model Industrial Zone, Islamabad

As per reports, the planned industrial zone in Islamabad will be set up on 100 to 200 acres of land. Previously, the same zone was planned for development on 200 to 500 acres of land.
