Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, through a twitter notification on November 2, revealed that the government was considering a proposal to run an electric automatic train from the Islamabad International Airport to the city of Murree.
The minister additionally disclosed that the expressions of interest (EOI) for the city’s proposed electric busses project would be invited soon, and that ‘Islamabad will be the first city in Pakistan to have environment-friendly electric transport by December this year’. He added that the project would expedite work on the government’s policy to control environmental pollution. Chaudhry further revealed that the government had also decided to install electric vehicle charging stations on the country’s motorways over the next six months.

Regarding the proposed electric train project, Chaudhry said that it would change the face of tourism in Pakistan. Reportedly, the government departments concerned have already started work on preparing the project’s feasibility study, while the Planning Ministry has also held a meeting in this regard.
