Lahore: The Walton Cantonment Board (WCB) and the Lahore Cantonment Board (LCB) have raised the property taxes for the developed housing schemes falling within their jurisdiction by over 300%, according to a news published on August 13.

As per the sources, the annual property tax rate of a one-kanal house in Defense Housing Authority (DHA) within WCB limits has risen from PKR 12,000- 17,000 (in 2021) to almost PKR 70,000. Moreover, the residents will be obligated to pay PKR 143,000 for a 2-kanal house, as compared to PKR 33,000 charged last year.

The residents have voiced their concerns over the sudden and steep hike in tax rates and stated that the board doesn’t provide any particular civic amenities for the amount to be justified. They have requested the WCB and LCB to reconsider this decision and send revised tax bills.
