Abbottabad: The Cantonment Board Abbottabad (CBA) has revised the mechanism to calculate property tax media sources reported. The authorities also identified 7,000 residential and commercial units, which were, previously, excluded from the tax net.

Cantonment Executive Officer (CEO) Ammara Ammar informed that the revision has been made after consultation with the Regional Headquarters. According to details, previously, there were 2,500 residential properties under assessment. She reported that the rationalisation of taxes was being made in the department. It was mentioned that Wah Cantonment and Abbottabad Cantonment were selected as model cantonments to implement rationalised property tax.
The CEO disclosed there were disparities in the taxes of the same sized houses. As per details, the disparity resulted in an annual loss of PKR 39.2 million. The average property tax collected by the board was PKR 65 million, which was increased to PKR 104 million last year, she added.

Furthermore, CEO Ammara Ammar mentioned that a tax calculator was been launched by CBA and will be available on the authority’s website. To facilitate the residents, the authority is working on providing an e-billing facility.
