Rawalpindi: The Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control (ET&N) Department has launched a property survey in the Rawalpindi division to broaden the tax net, news sources reported on November 7. The survey is being conducted in 19 union councils to document new and old commercial and residential buildings and businesses.

Led by area excise inspectors, specialised teams have been formed to document and record newly built housing units, municipal corporation buildings and commercial properties. All business activities running in residential buildings, including beauty salons, departmental stores, tuition centres and small enterprises, will be classified as commercial and additional taxes will be imposed on them starting from January 2022.

The survey will also document warehouses, mini-factories, stores, tailor shops, confectioneries, production units, small and big shops and other commercial establishments. According to sources, the department has planned to tax the previously exempted 5-marla houses that have rented first or second floor. The survey, which is slated to be completed by December-end, is expected to boost tax revenue by 35 per cent.
