Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Friday (March 25) referred four development projects worth PKR 352.9 billion – including Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-6) and Peshawar Ring Road – for approval of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC), according to media reports.

The referral decision was made during a recently held meeting, which was chaired by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Jahanzeb Khan, with chairmen of National Highway Authority (NHA) & National Disaster Management Authority, Secretary Ministry of Communication, members of the commission, and other key stakeholders in attendance.
The four projects to be referred to ECNEC included construction of the northern area of Peshawar Ring Road (from Warsak road to Nasir Bagh Road), construction of Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway, and revamping and restoration of Orangi and Gujjar Nullahs.
According to details, the six-lane Peshawar Ring Road’s northern area, from Warsak Road to Nasir Bagh, will be developed at the cost of PKR 14,703.892 million. It is expected to be complete within three years. The said project will resolve the traffic problem by providing an alternate route. Under this project, three lanes dual carriageway, underpasses, culverts, flyovers, intersections, bridges, and retaining walls will be developed.
As per the details, the six-lane Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway will be constructed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis at the total cost of PKR 308,194 million. The project will be implemented by NHA. It will pass through Nawabshah, Jamshoro, Hala, Tando Adam, Shahdapur, Larkana, Moro, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, Rasoolpur, and Mehrabpur. Under this initiative, one bridge will be constructed over River Indus along with 154 subways, 137 cattle creeps, 76 canal bridges, 19 overpass bridges, 15 interchanges, 6 flyovers, and a drainage structure.

Moreover, the meeting also recommended the revamping and restoration of Organi and Gujjar Nullahs to ECNEC at the revised cost of PKR 15,083.18 million and PKR 14,956.46 million, respectively.
