Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has iniated a project to restore the historical beauty of the city’s 200-year-old Bhabhra and Sarafa Bazars, a news source reported. The United Nations (UN) and World Bank (WB) will provide the required financial assistance.

In order to start the restoration process, the RDA has notified Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) officials of the status of shaggy conditions of the streetlights and the unsightly cable wires in order to take the remove them. As per the plan, these wires and poles will be installed in old-fashioned and less visible manner in order to refrain from casting a shadow on the beauty of the centuries old structures present there.

In order to cover these wires, arrange for a better and more aesthetically pleasing electricity transmission arrangement, and ascertain the expenditure, WAPDA officials have asked for the related data.
As per the source within the RDA, these markets will be made vehicle-free where people will be encouraged to walk. However, there might be an arrangement on allowing traffic flow during specific hours of the day, says the news source.

The RDA also plans on refreshing the markets’ looks by repainting the buildings – some of which were constructed in the Mughal and the British era. Furthermore, special benches will be placed along the walkways in addition to the plans for setting up a proper food street in these markets.
