Karachi: Sindh Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla has instructed tax officials to speed up the process to collect professional tax and launch crackdown against those refusing to comply, a news source reported. He further instructed the officials of taxation department to form teams to ensure tax collection.

He issued the directives while presiding over a meeting with senior officials of the department including Excise Secretary Abdul Haleem Sheikh and Excise Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddique among other senior officials.

The minister directed the officials to improve the collection of professional tax and meet the set targets. Excise DG Siddiqui upraised the minister that his team had sealed several shops in Larkana on non-payment of professional tax. He also mentioned that a similar operation is in the works and is soon to be launched in the provincial capital.

Responding to this, Chawla said that excise officials should council the professionals on clearing the pending taxes to avoid any unfortunate situation.
