Islamabad: The plans to subsume the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) into the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) are underway, according to a news report.

Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal, the head of both these authorities, stated that the subsuming of ERRA into the NDMA would be completed by the end of December. He expressed his view on the matter during the 25th ERRA board meeting.

He added that the financial and budgetary details of the proposed merger would be finalised by the end of this financial year. Afzal ensured the attendees of the meeting that the existing ERRA staff would be adjusted into the upcoming National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other wings proposed for the NDMA. In addition, he revealed that a three-tier self-financing model for the NDMA would be eventually applied; under which all disaster management expenses and compensations would be fulfilled using the body’s own resources.
