Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has said that private housing societies pose a threat to forests in the region, according to a news source. While hearing the case on maintaining forests in Murree and its connecting areas, a three-member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal asked for a detailed report on it.
The Supreme Court took suo muto notice of the illegal cutting down of trees. During the hearing, Justice Afzal expressed grievances over maintaining and preserving trees at a large scale without initiating a formal drive to plan new ones. For the next hearing, Justice Afzal asked the Secretary Environment, Secretary Forest, and Commissioner Rawalpindi to submit a detailed report. He also instructed that no construction should be allowed before the matter is sorted. The case is adjourned until November 9.
