Gujrat: Private housing schemes in Punjab may be asked to reserve at least 20% of their land for the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) project, a news source reported.

The Punjab Housing & Town Planning Agency (PHATA) is currently deliberating on a proposal to this effect. Reportedly, it plans to launch the NPHP project in Lodhran, Renala Khurd, and Chishtian next month.

Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed recently held a meeting with private developers on the matter. Representatives of the Housing Task Force, PHATA, and NESPAK were all present at the occasion.

The private builders reportedly agreed with the minister’s proposal, and expressed their willingness to share the project’s responsibility with the provincial government. They were also appreciative of the idea.

Sources close to the development said that PHATA may opt for multi-storey apartments – measuring 3-marla – in big cities such as Lahore and Rawalpindi.
