Lahore: President Arif Alvi recently asked for replicating the water conservation projects introduced by Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Lahore across the country, a news source reported on Tuesday (July 7). He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with WASA Managing Director (MD) Syed Zahid Aziz.

Aziz said that President Alvi had received a detailed briefing on several water conservation projects in Lahore. He further said that the president sought the replication of these projects across the country, especially in major cities like Islamabad and Karachi.
The WASA MD said that the president expressed his appreciation for the project of using ablution water for horticulture purposes. He added that he informed the president regarding Lahore’s first-ever surface water treatment plant as WASA had commenced with land acquisition in this regard.
Aziz revealed that this project would not only provide clean drinking water to the citizens but save the underground water aquifer of the city for future generations too. He further added that the president had also shown interest in the installation of water meters and use of recycled water for vehicle service stations in Lahore.

The Water Commission chairman, who was also present at the occasion, informed the president about the imposition and recovery of aquifer charges from private housing societies and bottled water companies.
