Islamabad: The government has decided to open the highly fortified President House to the masses, a news source reported. Commonly known as Aiwan-e-Sadr, the historic building will open its gate to the citizens on December 8.
Sources privy to the development said the President House will be opened only for one day and families can visit it from 9am to 4pm. He added that no decision to turn the massive estate into a regular public spot had been made so far.
Visitors would have the opportunity to take a round of the mini-zoo inside President House, besides enjoying a walk on green lawns and visiting the historic halls situated on the fifth floor, where oath-taking ceremonies of top government officials, including the prime ministers, took place.
The government has devised a security plan in consultation with police and security agencies and the visitors would be allowed to enter the premises after security clearance.
