Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday stressed the need for the development of health, education and road infrastructure in the country’s katchi abadis (slums) – a news source reported. He was presiding over a meeting on this issue at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Naya Pakistan Housing Authority Chairman Lt General (retd) Anwar Hyder, and other high officials of the government departments concerned, were also present at the session.
The meeting deliberated on a number of options for improving the infrastructure in Jamshaid Quarters, Pakistan Quarters and Railways katchi abadis in Karachi. The issue of providing them alternative arrangements also came under discussion.

During the proceedings, the president instructed the officials from the Ministry of Housing and Works and other departments and organizations to come up with a policy to bring the community and the private sector on the same page to improve the lives of the residents of these locations. The meeting also praised and admired the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s interest in the resolution of issues faced by the residents of these slums.
