Hunza: President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday urged mountaineers to adopt best practices for the promotion environment-friendly tourism initiatives in the country’s northern areas, a news source.

He expressed his views on the matter at the closing ceremony of Tour de Khunjerab 2019 – a three-day international cycling competition jointly organised by the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government and the Pakistan Cycling Federation that culminated on June 30.
GB Governor Raja Jalal Hussain, GB Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, along with senior politicians and high-ranking government officials, also attended the concluding ceremony.
The president advised the tourists to respect the law of the land and help the local community preserve the area’s natural beauty. For this purpose, the authorities concerned recently introduced a ‘plastic-free city’ campaign in various parts of the country, he added.

He said that the federal government is committed to developing and promoting tourism projects; adding that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has issued directives for identification of previously unexplored travel destinations.
