Lahore: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has decided to use drone technology to conduct aerial mapping of several taxable sectors of the national economy, such as real estate, construction, marriage halls, and warehouses – a news source reported.

The authority plans to deploy camera-equipped drones in a bid to record footages of warehouses and containers. This project is expected to go by the name of ‘Blue Sky Thinking’.
PRA Chairman Javed Ahmed said that the authority will initiate the project from next month onward. He added that aerial mapping will save time and effort.

The authority recently conducted tests for this purpose. It monitored containers installed in 42 different warehouses and carriage companies, and issued tax notices to several firms.
The chairman said that companies cannot refute the evidence provide by drone footage. This practice will enable the authorities to launch a crackdown against tax evaders.

He added that aerial mapping will help PRA determine the scale of construction projects. Moreover, the authority plans to fully digitise its operations by 2020.
