Lahore: Pakistan Railways (PR) has announced its decision to upgrade five major railway stations across Pakistan in a bid to offer added convenience to travellers and enhance revenue stream for the department, according to a news published on October 24.

The upgradation of railway stations in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Quetta is being planned under the instructions of the Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.

As per a ministry official, the reason behind this initiative is to transform the railway stations into ‘commercial hubs for economic activities’ and facilitate the travellers. The unnamed official further stated that the federal government is undertaking several steps to boost the PR’s performance. It was also highlighted that the department is working on the restoration of the railway infrastructure in Balochistan to provide a secure way of transportation for travellers. As per the official, PR is currently working on the rehabilitation of Sibi-Hurnai, Sibi-Quetta-Chaman, Spezand-Taftan, and some parts of the Jacobabad-Sibi tracks.
