The department initiated the project to utilise the opportunity offered by the partial lockdown implemented countrywide, along with suspension of train operations to renovate the old bridge to its past glory. The now-dilapidated, 135-year-old truss iron bridge is located near Rawalpindi Railway Station and the Pakistan Army’s Transit Camp.

Divisional Superintendent Syed Munawar Shah said that the renovation project will be completed before Eid-ul-Fitr. He further went on to say that the bridge will be painted over to prevent additional rusting and the bridge road will also be reconstructed.
Shah said that the road on the said bridge was initially meant for light traffic but is now being used by heavy traffic, despite the administration’s repeated warnings for heavy vehicles to not use the bridge.
