In PPP’s tenure so far, 56,187 acres of land has been distributed among the poor farmers of Pakistan. This claim was made by Jam Mahtab Hussain Dahar, the Provincial Minister of Revenue, during a media briefing held today. According to him, the land was allotted to landless farmers and women with an intention to offer them a sound means of income.
He revealed that the total number of allottees is 60,096 and almost 80 percent of them are women. The special focus on women, according to him, is laid with an intention to empower them, as this was the dream of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The prime purpose behind the allotment of agricultural land is to eradicate poverty and help the farmers and especially women to play their role in strengthening the society and country’s economy.
The Provincial Minister of Revenue further added that other than allotting agriculture land to the farmer, the government has also offered them financial assistance of as much as Rs 58,000. The most encouraging aspect of this act is that the seeds, fertilizers, and related facilities required for farming are part of the grant packages offered by the government of Pakistan People’s Party.
Mr. Dahar announced the land allotment would be continued in the future. According to him, the efforts made by the government are meant to support the farming and farmers in the agriculture based economy of Pakistan. He further added that the current democratic government of Pakistan is working in the direction to fulfil dreams and visions of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
