Islamabad: Federal Minister for Power Division Ali Zafar presided over a meeting of the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) to discuss competitive bidding for viable hydroelectric power projects in Pakistan, according to a news source.
For this purpose, the PPIB will advertise two to three sites for the construction of various hydroelectric projects. The organisation’s Managing Director Shah Jahan Mirza briefed the attendees of the meeting and stated that they would focus on the addition of affordable electricity to the grid, and will prioritise domestic resources such as Thar coal and hydroelectric power generation. Mirza informed the gathering that it aims to complete nine projects of 8,200 MW by the end of the year, and projects of 14,000 MW by 2021.
