Swabi: The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) in association with the German Development Bank (KfW) has inaugurated state-of-the-art 197-kW solar energy mini-grids project in the Swabi district, news sources reported. The renewable energy project will serve a population of 801 households living without power.

Reportedly, the project is one of the several renewable energy projects completed by PPFA and the German bank for the residents of KP. In addition, the authority has also completed several additional hydropower and renewable energy projects in the province. The mini-grid solar systems, which have been installed in tiny villages in districts Swabi and Karak, have a total capacity of 197 kW and 185 kW, respectively. It is worth noting that 24 solar mini-grid systems with a combined capacity of 119 kW have already been constructed in Lakki Marwat’s off-grid communities.

On the occasion, First Secretary Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Antonia Peters said that with these initiatives, Pakistan will reach the target of 60% renewable energy resources dependence in the next eight years. She termed it a positive step towards the achievement of United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
