Karachi: The Government of Sindh has approved the establishment of a 50 megawatt power station for the K-IV Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme, reported a news source. The project was approved during the 25th meeting of the provincial government’s Public Private Partnership Policy Board held on Monday.
This meeting was chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, where different schemes including the Livestock Tagging project, the local government’s Karachi Theme Park, the English-medium schools project, Khairpur wholesale dates market, and safety and security services at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) came under discussion.
Shah said that the K-IV project’s first phase is aimed at bringing 260 million gallons a day of water to Karachi and requires 50 MW of power to meet its energy needs to pump this water. Shah also highlighted that the project will be gas-powered and provide adequate backup supply either on-site or through the provision of power from the local distribution company.
