Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company has started work on producing gas and electricity from trash, reported a news source. In this regard, a proposal is under consideration to set up a waste dumping site and power production plant at a 2200 acres of land in Sahang, Gojar Khan.
To collect trash from 62 union councils of the city on a daily basis and dump it at a waste disposal site in Liaqat Bagh, contract worth PKR 8 billion has been awarded to Albaerik, a Turkish firm. Albaerik collects 850 tonnes of waste every day, out of which 90% is generated by the city.
