Islamabad: The Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCOE) has urged the Power Division to expedite the finalisation of the renewable energy policy, a news source reported. The CCOE has asked the division to report to the committee soon on the matter.

In this regard, Federal Minister for Planning & Development Asad Umar chaired a meeting of the CCOE. The officials concerned informed the meeting about the ongoing progress of the renewable energy policy’s formulation and approval. They added that the power division had introduced the process of competitive bidding to facilitate entry of new producers within the country’s renewable energy sector.

The CCOE meeting also received information on the future trajectory of energy demand in Pakistan. The officials concerned briefed the meeting about the measures taken to ensure power availability to different sectors, progress on rationalising the energy prices across the county, and steps taken for establishing a Technical Directorate at the Ministry of Energy for improved governance within the power sector.
