Islamabad: The Power Division recently stated that it had recovered PKR 1.368 billion during an anti-theft drive; adding that it had successfully reduced line losses by 1.4 percent with an impact of nearly PKR 16 billion – a news source reported.

Further, the authorities concerned are all set to install aerial bundled cables (ABCs) in areas whose electricity supplies are maintained by the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and the Sukkur Electric Power Company. This initiative is expected to help reduce power theft in these localities.

The federal government recently announced its decision to systemically reduce the monthly inflows to the circular debt. A month ago, the figure stood at PKR 38 billion. Now, it has been brought down to PKR 26 billion. This will be further brought down to PKR 8 billion in June, 2020, and will be reduced to zero by December 2020 – according to the executive.
According to a senior official of the power division, the government is working to reform the sector in order to make it self-sustaining.
Talking about the anti-theft campaign, he said that it was launched on directions of the prime minister in October 2018. Under the campaign, nearly 36,000 FIRs were registered, 5,318 persons were arrested, and PKR 1.368 billion was recovered from the theft campaign.
