Islamabad: The Department for Environmental Protection Islamabad has taken an initiative as per the directions of the Department’s Director General for inspection of pollution levels in industrial areas of the city, according to a news source. The survey has started to look at the levels of pollution in the industrial areas of Sectors I-9 and I-10, and the thirty industrial units that exist there.
The survey will take note of discharged water and gases from the areas, and necessary action will be taken against all the relevant businesses guilty of pollution.
A similar survey of the Industrial Area was held in 2006, the report of which detailed the number of industrial units present in this locality. According to the survey, Sectors I-9 and I-10 have 200 factories, which include eights steel-melting furnace units, 11 re-rolling mills, 30 flour mills, five oil and ghee mills, whereas 40 cutting and polishing units, 10 pharmaceutical units, two galvanising units and 30 metal working and engineering units are also present, along with various other smaller industrial units.
