Karachi: Advisor to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Monday revealed that the PM’s drive to conserve parks across Pakistan would launch soon, a news source reported. He was speaking at a video-link roundtable discussion organised by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to mark the World Environment Day 2020.

The SAPM said that the government had introduced the green stimulus and green recovery processes in order to revive the country’s economy. He added that these packages would also ensure that economic actions after resolution of the COVID-19 pandemic do not harm the environment.
Aslam further stated that the government used the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project for employing 65,000 people during the lockdown. He added that these people had lost their jobs in the urban areas and returned to their native rural localities.

Aslam informed the meeting that these jobs were related to tending to nurseries set up for promoting greenery and monitoring wildfires during summer’s peak in the country. He added that Pakistan was the first country in the world to repurpose available World Bank funds for reviving natural environment amid the COVID-19 situation.
