Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday (September 30) said that there is a need to enhance and promote Pakistan’s non-traditional export products in countries where Pakistani manufactured products are in high demand, news sources reported. He was chairing a meeting to review Pakistan’s Export Performance.

The meeting was informed by officials from the Ministry of Commerce regarding Pakistan’s conventional and non-traditional export performance during the previous fiscal year (FY 2020-21). According to the statistics provided, Pakistan’s conventional export industry earned USD 3.8 billion, while the non-traditional sector earned USD 2.1 billion. According to the ministry, government investment and industry-friendly policies are projected to improve progress in the current financial year.
The premier directed for export targets to be specified for the trade attaches at Pakistani embassies throughout the world, in order to boost commerce.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan is a major exporter of cotton and cotton-based products, while the non-traditional export of the country includes minerals, gemstones, food products, fruits, IT and ceramics.
