Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has urged the local businessmen and industrialists to work with the government for generating more taxes, a news source reported. The PM was addressing an awards distribution ceremony at the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce (GCC).

He expressed the confidence that collective efforts of the nation would address the country’s economic crisis. He expressed his concerns that only a small sum of taxes was being collected from the service and agriculture sectors. He added that there was a need to change the mindset as outdated patterns were no longer feasible for running the country; adding that broadening the tax net was a necessity.
PM Imran stated that the public wanted educational and healthcare facilities, but if the current circumstances continued (referring to not giving into pressure of reverting new taxation measures), the government would not be able to provide such facilities.

Moreover, PM Khan said that the government was reforming the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to boost the public’s confidence in the taxation authority.
