Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday endorsed the timely completion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects to avert cost escalation, a news source reported. As per the publication, Khan presided over a review meeting in which various energy projects under CPEC were discussed.

The prime minister emphasised that the projects were essential to the progress and development of the country – especially the economy as such projects provide additional jobs opportunities. The meeting reviewed various projects, including the Karot hydropower project, power projects in Thar, Gwadar power project, and Azad Patan and Kohala hydropower projects.

CPEC Authority Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa, while informing the meeting about the CPEC projects, said that nine out of the total 22 energy projects had already been initiated. The government has released PKR 12.13 billion out of PKR 18 billion for various CPEC projects, including the said energy projects.

Other senior officials including Planning Minister Asad Umer, Special Assistant to PM for Petroleum Nadeem Babar, and Minister for Power Omar Ayub attended the meeting.
