Lahore: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has directed Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Vice Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Imran to introduce measures for ensuring merit-based appointments and transparency within the workings of the civic agency, a news source reported. He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with several LDA representatives.

The PM stated that there was a need to make the LDA free of corruption and political influence so that the general public could experience a real change under the rule of the incumbent government.
In response, the LDA official briefed the PM about various projects being introduced by the civic agency. These included regulatory reforms, changes to by-laws, the Insaf Portal for registering public complaints, and Lahore’s vertical expansion; which includes the ongoing construction of high-rise buildings within the last one year.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved six development schemes costing PKR 14.107 billion. The authority gave the approval during its meeting for the current fiscal year (FY 2019-20).

The approved schemes included Project Readiness Financing of Punjab Water Resources Management (PC-II) at a cost of PKR 9919.02 million and Construction of River Training Works on Indus Rover for Protection of CPEC Hakla Bridge, Mianwali at a cost of PKR 2.7615 billion.
