Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday stressed on the need for developing effective coordination among all government departments at the federal and provincial levels in order to fully capitalise on the country’s inherent tourism potential, a news source reported. Presiding over a review meeting on the promotion of tourism, PM Khan called for expediting the development of relevant infrastructure, along with providing the required facilities and services.

PM Khan also on stressed the need for having a single authority to supervise the restoration and renovation of existing tourism infrastructure. Pertaining to the tourism sector, the PM also directed to quicken the work for developing a legislative framework.
Furthermore, the PM called attention to the potential of religious tourism in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He added that international investors were showing interest in the country’s tourism sector.

The meeting reviewed the progress on earlier decisions taken pertaining to boosting tourism, including the identification of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC)’s properties, along with their opening for the general public – especially in KP.
