Lahore: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday (March 10) reiterated his resolve for the development of South Punjab, news sources reported. He stated this at a meeting with South Punjab parliamentarians during his one-day visit to Lahore.

According to reports, he stated that the government has set aside considerable funds for the creation of Special Industrial Zones (SIZs) and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the area, which, when completed, will benefit the local community and youth. He stated that the Punjab administration is making every effort to bridge the divide between the province’s southern and centre regions.

Furthermore, he thanked Punjab Chief Minister (CM) for implementing development-related actions that have had a good influence on the Punjab economy. It is worth recalling that Prime Minister Imran has pledged a PKR 500 billion development fund for the southern part of the province. The funding would be used to support road maintenance and universities. During a meeting held here last week, he also declared plans to bring legislation to designate South Punjab as a separate province for better development and management of resources and human welfare programmes in the region.
