Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif called for more productive relations with the United Kingdom (UK) based on trade and investment, news sources reported on April 21. The premier stressed the need for strategic relations with the UK in the coming years.

According to reports, the premier voiced his opinion at a meeting with a delegation from the UK high commission led by British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner. Both parties expressed optimism about development and migration. According to the High Commissioner, the UK is home to 1.6 million non-resident Pakistanis who contribute significantly to the country’s economy. PM Shehbaz emphasised the need for more transparent migration policies.

The prime minister also praised the United Kingdom’s efforts to promote education, health, and other social sectors in Pakistan. It is worth noting that the United Kingdom is a major export market for Pakistan’s food and agriculture sectors, as well as a major consumer of textile items. NRPs in the United Kingdom have been sending millions of dollars in remittances, which contribute significantly to Pakistan’s economy. NRPs in the United Kingdom sent a total of USD 401 million in the month of March.
