Speaking at a press conference alongside Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who was visiting Pakistan on a two-day trip, Sharif said that both countries needed to work closely together to strengthen economic cooperation and increase trade in industries such as agriculture, joint ventures, and energy cooperation. Sharif also highlighted the importance of Tajikistan in Central Asia, describing it as a ‘gateway’ to the region. He expressed hope that Rahmon’s visit would mark the beginning of a new era of cooperation and development between the two countries. PM Sharif also highlighted that Pakistan’s energy needs are also closely tied with Tajikistan and the CASA-1000 is a prime example of this reliance.

PM Shehbaz tweeted his desire for the development of bilateral ties saying ‘Happy to receive my brother President Emomali Rahmon at PM House today. We had very productive discussions & agreed to scale up the existing level of cooperation by focusing on energy, trade & security. We have the resolve to leverage our relations for the good of two countries.’
It is important to note that Tajikistan is an important Central Asian Republic (CAR) country with huge energy reserves. Pakistan signed the CASA-1000 project with Tajikistan to import cheap electricity as a part of its energy independence policy.
