Peshawar: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif visited the Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and was briefed on the progress of development work, according to news published on June 16.

The PM was briefed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The minister was informed about the marketing strategy for the promotion of the zone, development work, problems related to SEZ, new enterprises and enterprises currently working in the zone.
As per the details, Rashakai SEZ is a prioritised Special Economic Zone under the China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC) framework. Once occupied, the SEZ will provide 200,000 employment opportunities for the locals along with an expected investment of USD 4 billion. It was disclosed that 15 enterprises have already been allocated industrial plots with investment mobilisation of PKR 78 billion.

Moreover, PM Shehbaz directed the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) officials to resolve the problems related to power and energy. He also visited the under-construction site of Enterprise M/S Century Steel in the zone which is expected to be operational in the next year.
