Lahore: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan recently expressed the government’s intent to set up Special Technology Zones in a bid to support the country’s Information Technology (IT) industry, a news source reported on August 28.

In a meeting with a delegation from the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) and other industry representatives, the PM expressed his support for establishing said facilities in order to boost the sector’s growth as well as improve the executive’s ease-of-doing business initiatives.
As per sources, the IT industry representatives had requested the government to set up these Special Technology Zones for providing opportunities to medium and small-scale firms within the sector. They opined that this measure would reduce infrastructure and other overhead costs for these companies.

Sources revealed that now with PM Khan showing his interest, he would direct the Planning Commission to approve the budget for the project proposed in this regard. They added that the PM had sought the project details called for its quick implementation.
