Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday announced the federal government’s decision to unveil a PKR 100 billion package for the construction industry today (April 3)— with the initiative part of the government’s efforts to keep the country’s economy intact in the face of the coronavirus outbreak, a news source reported.

The PM stated that the government was providing the construction industry with all the essential incentives that would lead to job opportunities during the coronavirus outbreak. He further said that the commerce ministry had also formulated a list of industries that could be reopened.

PM Khan said that the construction work on infrastructural projects, like roads, would not be affected by the coronavirus spread. He added that the government would work on developing the required standard operating procedures (SOPs) to guarantee the safety of workers.

The premier also took the opportunity to mention that the decision of refunding PKR 100 billion for the business community had been made in order to save them from issues of liquidity. Adviser on finance Hafeez Sheikh revealed that the PKR 100 billion tax refunds would be paid within the next week.
