Reportedly, during a briefing given to the National Assembly committee, Aslam said that in the event of a legitimate necessity, approval from federal or provincial cabinets will be required to convert green land to brown land for residential purposes. The Punjab government has already issued a notification in this respect. Similarly, under the green stimulus project, electric buses will be operated from Islamabad Zoo to Monal. Additionally, all brick kilns will be converted into zig-zag technology to reduce smog in big cities. He also stated that Islamabad’s master plan will be modified soon, for the first time since it was developed in the 1960s.

In another development, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General (DG) Ahmad Aziz Tarar said that the authority will allow multi-story buildings to be constructed on 26 roads in Lahore city. The initiative will promote the vertical expansion of the city while reducing unplanned housing societies. The decision was made following an assessment of the city’s commercialization efforts and monitoring. It was said that a strategy to prevent the unauthorised commercialization of important roadways is required. It was also agreed that the city needs a robust parking strategy to decrease traffic congestion.
