Mohmand: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan performed the ground-breaking ceremony of the Mohmand Dam project on Thursday, a news source reported. While attending the event in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Mohmand district, the PM stated that his government was committed to overcoming the water crisis that has for long been a persistent feature of the country.

The premier also expressed his opinions regarding the ongoing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. He said that the initiative serves as a ray of hope for Pakistan, and stressed on the need of uplifting the under-privileged areas of the society along with the rest of the country.
Former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar was also present at the occasion, and recounted some of the details of his earlier overseas trips geared towards raising funds for the dam. He also opined that the monthly costs incurred in constructing Mohmand Dam, including those accrued through supporting operations, should be made public.

The CJP added that he hopes to see Mohmand Dam’s construction reach its completion stage.
The dam is being constructed on the Swat River, and will reportedly incur a cost of more than PKR 309 billion. It is slated for completion in 2024.
