Quetta: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday (September 4) ordered the National Highway Authority (NHA) to restore and repair all land links and roads in the flood-affected areas of Balochistan for quick relief and recovery activities.

Reportedly, in a visit to Balochistan, PM Shehbaz visited various flood-hit areas and was briefed by Chairman Khurram Agha about the development work and the restoration activities. He said the authority has successfully restored land connections between the provincial capital and other major cities. He further stated that the Mansehra-Naran-Chilas N-15 National Highway has been rebuilt, as has the Karachi-Chaman N-25 Highway, where a road section from Hub to Khuzdar was swept away by the flood.
It was highlighted that traffic has been restored on the ‘Quetta-Nushki section of the Lakpass-Dalbandin N-40 highway, the Chakdara-Dir section of the Nowshera-Chitral N-45 highway, the Rajanpur-Taunsa and D.I. Khan-Pezu sections of the Indus Highway, the Sibi-Quetta section of the Sukkur-Quetta N-65 highway, and the Fort Munro section of the Qilla Saifullah-Multan N-70 highway, Alpuri-Basham section on Khwazakhela-Besham N-90 highway, Gilgit-Shandur section on Shandur Road N-140 and Shangous section on Strategic Highway S-1 have been restored for traffic’.

The Karakorum Highway N-35, which had previously been blocked to traffic from Indus Kohistan to Hunza, has also been restored.
The PM praised the efforts of labourers and engineers working on road infrastructure repair and offered a PKR 5 million relief payment for those restoring the highway and a PKR 1 million grant for those restoring a key pipeline carrying gas to Quetta and other places. He also promised PKR 3 million to those who helped rehabilitate the Bibi Nani bridge.
