Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, during a recent cabinet meeting, ordered the government’s finance and revenue advisors to conduct a forensic audit of the country’s major state-owned enterprises (SOEs) for the past 10 years, a news source reported on August 23.

According to details, the minister for maritime affairs brought up the matter during the meeting. He stated that major state enterprises had not been audited for the past four years. Under the forensic audit, the financial records of the troubled SOEs will be examined. These enterprises include the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).

The cabinet also discussed the matter of electricity tariffs, availability of essential items and second extension in the appointment contract of National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) Chairman Justice (retired) Mian Shakirullah Jan for two years. His extended term is to set expire on September 6.
