Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to initiate a countrywide crackdown against holders of benami assets, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar in Islamabad on Thursday. Adviser to the PM on Finance Dr Hafeez Sheikh, FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi, along with other government officials, also attended the meeting.
PM Khan asked the FBR chairman to hold meetings with office-bearers of the commerce chambers in Lahore and Faisalabad, and to apprise the business community about the economic reforms being introduced by the government.
Moreover, he encouraged the revenue authority to address the concerns of the traders and businessmen, as well as to ensure best practices in the conduct of its operations in a bid to solve Pakistan’s economic crisis.

The prime minister also informed the meeting that he would visit Karachi on July 11 to interact with the business community in order to apprise them of his government’s economic policies.
