In a meeting to review ongoing energy development projects, including gas development schemes, PM Shehbaz said that solar and renewable energy sources should be an important part of the government’s policy to secure a consistent energy supply for economic development. He said that the government will ensure appropriate and adequate policy measures to regulate the renewable energy sector to reduce reliance on excessively imported oil.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz also approved the completion of the construction work for the gas development plans initiated between 2013 and 2018.

It is important to note that Pakistan’s major share of energy is produced from fossil fuels, which make up a bulk of the external payments. However, in recent years, the government has started to encourage renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power. Despite these sustainable initiatives, the share of these sources has remained minimal in the total energy mix.
