Nowshera: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday launched the countrywide olive cultivation drive in Nowshera district and termed large-scale olive cultivation to be the best investment for the country in terms of earning foreign exchange, creating employment opportunities and food security, according to news sources.

He said that olive plantation has immense potential due to the suitable climate and topography from north to south. He further stated that for low-irrigation olive farming, water-scarce areas like Suleiman Mountains (near Waziristan), Balochistan’s plains and Punjab’s diverse terrain offer ideal environment.

The prime minister said that olive oil extracted from the plants can be used to meet local demand as well as exports. He went on to say that Pakistan has more potential than Spain for olive oil production and can explore possibilities through strategic olive cultivation drive. Highlighting the country’s 12 climatic zones and diversified landscape, he urged people to plant a variety of crops and fruit.
