Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan has inaugurated the ‘Ehsaas Amdan (income) Programme’ in Layyah on February 21 — with the initiative aimed at facilitating and creating respectable livelihood opportunities for underprivileged members of society, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the ‘Ehsaas Amdan (income) Programme’ is one of the several programmes generated under the umbrella of the ‘Ehsaas’ project, which has a total budget of PKR 15 billion. The programme comprises of providing small assets to individuals affected by extreme poverty so that they have the opportunity to earn their own living and release themselves from their poor conditions. The assets included under the programme are agricultural inputs, body of Chingchi rickshaws, livestock (poultry, buffaloes, cows, goats) and inputs for small enterprises and retail outlets.

The Ehsaas Amdan Programme is expected to provide 200,000 assets to deserving individuals — of which 60 percent will be women and 30 percent will be members of the country’s youth community. Additionally, it will be first initiated in 375 rural union councils in 23 underprivileged districts across the provinces.

The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) is the leading implementing agency which will conduct the asset transfers, and it is collaborating with partner organisations for the implementation of the programme — with the Ehsaas programme planned to be a four-year initiative, which is expected to last until 2023.
